Hello, Garden enthusiasts!
Christa here, your Life Enrichment Director at Gardens at Columbine, bringing you a delightful update from our Gardening Club. Today was no ordinary day – our Memory Care Unit's residents embraced their inner gardeners and embarked on a wonderfully green adventure, planting none other than the culinary staple, the ever-versatile, tomatoes!
Planting a seed may seem like a simple act, but it's incredibly meaningful. It's a promise of life, of growth, and of the delicious fruit that's to come. Our residents delved into this task with enthusiasm and anticipation, their faces lit up with joy and pride as they planted their tomato seeds in our garden.
Our garden club event wasn't just about getting our hands dirty, though. This was a chance to stimulate our senses and evoke fond memories. The fresh, earthy scent of the soil, the vibrant green of the tomato seedlings, and the promise of biting into a fresh, juicy tomato in the near future... all these experiences have the power to unlock beautiful memories and feelings.
While our residents took turns carefully placing each seed into the soil, we spoke about the life cycle of a tomato plant, its needs, and the rewarding process of tending a garden. Through these discussions, we not only shared knowledge but also encouraged our residents to engage, interact, and connect with each other, nurturing our community spirit.
Moreover, this activity was a chance to enjoy the outdoors and bask in the therapeutic effects of nature. We spent a glorious day under the beautiful Colorado sky in our inner courtyard with the sun softly shining down on us.
Looking ahead, we'll be patiently tending to our tomato plants, waiting for the day when we can harvest the fruits of our labor and perhaps use them in a meal right here at Gardens at Columbine. We also plan on coordinating with some of the local Littleton Garden Clubs for some more hands on demonstrations. These include Littleton Garden Gang, City run garden plots, Littleton Pea Patch, and the Hudson Gardens.
We can't wait to share with you the progress of our tomato garden – watch this space!
Until next time, keep growing, keep flourishing!
Christa
