Hello to our wonderful community! This is Christa, your Life Enrichment Director from Gardens at Columbine.
Did you know that in 1969, a trembling seat and a countdown was all it took to launch us into a new era? The world held its breath as U.S. Commander Neil Armstrong embarked on Apollo 11, the mission to land the first man on the moon. I bet many of you remember that historic moment as vividly as yesterday.
Well, recently, our residents and I had the chance to relive this extraordinary period of history. We took a trip to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, where we journeyed through time to witness the U.S.'s audacious foray into space.
The Museum’s travelling exhibition, “Apollo: When We Went to the Moon,” beautifully encapsulates the thrilling space race that led up to that epochal moon landing. With over 100 artifacts from the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s archives on display, it was as if we'd stepped into the control room ourselves.
Residents could leave footprints on a virtual moon surface and climb aboard a model lunar rover.
The exhibit gave residents a chance to recall the moon landing and share memories of that period.
We're so grateful for these opportunities to explore and learn together. The world may have been to the moon, but here at Gardens at Columbine, our adventures are far from over. Stay tuned for our next outing, and until then, keep reaching for the stars!
